Just wondering, why is a petition necessary? Has MainActor declined a 
direct request? Did they give a reason?

It's not unusual for third-party code licensing agreements to preclude 
releasing to open source. Can MainActor open source their software even 
if they want to? What parts can't be open sourced and if so who will 
implement that?

Who will take control as project manager and maintain MainActor if it 
does become open source? Where will the code be hosted?
