Alan, CinePaint and GraphicsMagick are your only options for OSS DPX software. Both offer crude sequence playback. Framecycler is popular but not free. There used to be Linux Shake. Many studios have created their own playback systems for Linux, but secret proprietary stuff. How would you do playback in real time without caching to RAM? Do you have really fast RAID? It's on my to-do list to create a BSD-licensed FLTK OpenGL player for CinePaint. If you're serious about helping with that we could talk.
