The best way I know of is to not use separate sound and video devices;
use integrated ones like DV, WinTV-PVR 350, or SDI. These sort of
devices accept a muxed stream, and use either an internal common clock
(hopefully) or world clock when they do the analog conversion. In my
recent project, which is nearing completion --

server, we currently support DV and SDI output (BlueFish444). However,
realtime encoding to DV is rather intense, and we support the fast
MainConcept DV codec as well. There is not much introductory material on
