Recruiting Vinton Studios 1400 NW 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97210 --- JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Linux System Administrator General Summary Primary role is to provide support for all Linux production resources with a secondary role providing support for other IT production resources. Principal Duties and Responsibilities may Include: 1. Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day issues with Red Hat 9 Linux workstations 2. Work with system imaging and maintenance infrastructure (must be proficient with Kickstart, Anaconda and rsync; able to write sophisticated make(1) rules) 3. Maintain host configurations for network services (ISC DNS and DHCP, NFS export lists, printer daemon configurations, Kerberos keytabs, SSH keys, etc.) 4. Maintain asset and host configuration databases (good knowledge of SQL required) 5. Resolve any hardware problems (should be able to build systems from scratch) 6. Work with vendors to procure new systems, exchange failed parts, etc. 7. Compile and install new Linux kernels 8. Work with various package management tools (rpm, apt, yum, slink, etc.) 9. Compile and install drivers for third-party hardware 10. Install and maintain production software (Maya, RenderMan, Shake) 11. Setup and maintain Windows applications under Wine 12. Setup and maintain configurations for X displays (including dual monitors, multiple input devices, tablets, etc.) 13. Setup and maintain KDE desktop environment 14. Setup and maintain basic applications and utilities (Netscape, OpenOffice, various media players, J2RE, etc.) Supervisory Responsibility None. Minimum Qualifications 1. Three to five years experience in system administration (at least three with Linux) 2. Three years experience in Perl programming 3. Demonstrated experience with network design, protocols and equipment 4. Demonstrated experience with Windows operating systems (2000, XP) 5. Demonstrated ability to prioritize 6. Ability to work under pressure 7. Detail oriented Preferred Qualifications 1. Experience using and/or administering Irix, MacOS, OpenBSD; Netapp filers 2.
