I have a G400 MAX and also (some time ago) had one of my RRGs attached to it. Have another G400 in the media box, which had a RRG attached until recently.
There's the TV tunner and also the Zoran MJPEG chip on the RRG.
Having TV and MJPEG hardware is what the Rainbow Runner G add-on is all about.
I watched TV nicely and recorded stuff.
I admit that of the latter I only did some testing under linux and it wasn't 100% good with the driver at the time, but under Windows I used that combination for producing some videos.
That includes recording analog material from cameras to MJPEG, cutting stuff, playing back to tape or converting to MPEG for DVD.

The raw data goes from the G400 directly to the RRG card without bothering the PCI bus, then the compressed MJPEG goes over the bus.
On the hardware side, it's a really fine combo - apart from the usual problem that it doesn't integrate the sound chip and thus one has to sync with the sound card on record/playback via software.

Hm, I bought a Hauppauge HVR1300 (hardware mpeg2 compression) because digital TV started around here... but perhaps I'll ditch this one for the RRG again since we have reallyreally crappy DVB-T reception here (being few kilometers from a main sending station, even).
