The link to MCF is that if XviD had a legal existence and maybe some money on the back they could have more power on Sigma, either by taking legal actions (they could easily win) but also just using this menace against Sigma (that would take it seriously because of the legal existence + money) to work things around in a friendlier manner... I think in the future such problems (violation of the libmcf license or abusive use of our format name when a software is not really compliant) will enevitably happen.
