JohnV was posting an email he received from Frank Klemm, the main ( and only
for the time being ) MPC developer.
Short answer due to time shortage (this is not
official)

- Open source okay
- SV8 immediately
- SV7 when SV8 is ready or time limit is reached (beginning of 2004)

- Some restrictions to avoid that we have a lot of versions of MPC

- This restrictions will be removed when SV8 is ready or time limit is
reached (beginning of 2004)

- SV8 basic encoder will only generates something like a raw format,
other container formats (MCF, Ogg) can be used to transport this raw
format.
I wrote to Frank this week about an UCI interface for MPC being a must if we
wanted to use the codec in MCF later. Not sure about how much time we have
now to get something persistent working here, but from a political/marketing
point of view i'd love to be able to support MPC with valid MCF streams
until the estimated arrival of the SV8 encoder, means about end of this
year. Is this ever feasible ?

To-Do-List ( short term ) :

- fix MCF specs, at least for simple audio streams
- create a mpc2mcf.exe for SV8 ( somehow based on MPEG still, for sure )
- adapt MCFparser.dll, maybe even include a MPC decoder in it ?
- fix audio codec part of UCI

To-Do-List ( medium term ) :

- fix UCI specs, at least audio part of codec interfacing
- put UCI interface into MPC decoder
- adapt MCF parser to be able to call MPC decoder via UCI
- put UCI interface into MPC encoder
- create encoding tools calling MPC encoder via UCI

Am i asking too much ? Any chance MCF will be an alternative container to
Ogg for MPC, once MPC SV8 is launched as an opensource project ?
