mpeg2enc ERROR sad_00 when using ALTIVEC

Dear mjpeg devs,

I have run into some problems using mjpegtools mpeg2enc for  
MythArchive and have traced the problem to the sad_00 routine when  
ALTIVEC is enabled. Recompiling mjpegtools with altivec disabled does  
not result in any crash. Here's the crash output I get when mjpegtools  
is compiled with altivec simd accel enabled (I compiled from both  
release 1.9.0rc3 and CVS):

Being as I am not familiar with the mjpegtools source or altivec or  
single-instruction, multiple-data programming, is there anyone that  
might know how to fix this?

My machine identifies the CPU as a PPC 7455 (ie -mtune=7450) with  
altivec supported. It's the Apple MDD "Windtunnel" G4.
