The goal of the new group is to position MPEGIF and its membership to be better able to address and promote new technologies and the adoption of associated standards that could have major impact on television products and services. The Advanced Technology Working Group will serve as an umbrella group that will have a wide scope of work and will include the continuation of the work of the 3DTV Working Group that was formed at the beginning of 2010 at the CES Show. In addition to 3DTV, the Advanced Technology Working Group will take on tasks related to media security including DRM. You will shortly see a call-for-participation to begin looking at best practices related to the exchange interface between encoders and key management systems. Today, these interfaces are defined by encoder and DRM vendors pair-wise, causing duplication of effort, multiple interfaces, and lack of interoperability. Moving forward to find ways of reducing complexity and redundancy will be an important part of making next-generation television efficient. The new Advanced Technology Working Group will also take on oversight of MPEGIF's long-standing Interoperability and Conformance Testing programs. MPEGIF has created a complete library of test streams for use in MPEG4/AVC self certification as well as procedure for performing self certification. MPEGIF aims to continue to provide a forum for interoperability and conformance testing to address the emergence of new television technologies and services. Our goal is to kick off the new group at IBC 2010 in Amsterdam and ask that you and your company will continue to be an active participant. Following the kick off meeting participation in the Advanced Technology Working Group will be available to MPEGIF members only.
