Dear MPEGIF News Readers,

 

We have had quite an eventful few last weeks and months. 

 

Most notably, the video version of the almost already legendary iPod was
launched by Apple - playing back MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 files. For the whole
industry this is excellent news and I am sure we will see many more MPEG-4
AVC/H.264 enabled CE devices launch in the next few months.

 

Stepping back into September, we experienced a very successful IBC with
close to 100 MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 product and services demonstrations on the
show floor. Also, the very first revenue bearing MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 service
has been launched by Video Networks in the UK .

 

During our MPEGIF Supersession at IBC, of which you will soon find photos
and video footage on our website, Roger Lynch, Video Network's CEO, gave a
great insight as to how beneficial their next generation service has become
- bandwidth consumption savings of 30% straight away reaching 50% within the
next year. 

 

MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 is the choice for next generation digital TV and indeed
mobile TV, as the forthcoming months will demonstrate.
