Yes. Seems like the right thing to do. I didn't do it initially, because I think the code wasn't seriously compiled for a long time. The ivtv kernel driver has been merged into V4L in 2007. Don't know how long after that, older kernels with IVTV were in use... Anyways, I contacted Ben privately. I will be waiting for some time if I receive a reply. I don't think we are in a particular hurry to remove that code.
