I mean there may be metadata for the whole media (disc, server, file) and
there may be metadata entries for the tracks/channels/etc too.

For example global metadata is the artist/title of a audio cd album,
per-track metadata is track titles and their length etc.

why? it's a lot simpler/cleaner than in g1
