why don't you read DOCS/xml/en/video.xml?

you have to copy a valid channels.conf in ~/.mplayer then run

mplayer dvb://

if you want the osd menu copy main/etc/dvb-menu.conf in ~.mplayer/menu.conf,
setup your osd correctly  and run mplayer -menu dvb://
