That certainly seemed to help when I added :muxrate=24000, but every
time I raised it it eventually wanted more. On the last run I set it
to 61644, but after several minutes it had raised itself to 109206,
and the recording won't play back after about 3 minutes.  It lasted
longer when I set the muxrate to about 30000, so I'll have to do
a longer test at this value.

The memory usage is stable until it starts self-raising the mux rate.
Then it's an uncontrolable rise, continuing to rise past the point
at which no further mux rate rises are announced.
