MPlayer does not read stream from Skystar2 card

Problem: my Skystar2 DVB-S card works with all tools, except MPlayer.
  I stripped down my channels.conf to just one TV channel and tried to
  playback this TV channel using 'mplayer dvb://<channel>'. It seems
  MPlayer tunes successfully but gets no data stream. Tuning to this
  channel with szap and playback with 'mplayer /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0'
  works fine.

System: SuSE Linux 9.1, vanilla Kernel 2.6.7, Technisat Skystar2 v2.6,
  MPlayer 1.0pre4 (tried 1.0pre5 too - same result), Satelite access
  via DiSeqC multiswitch
