Well, I updated to the latest version of Mplayer (SVN-r38020-7), freshly compiled, and it pulled the latest ffmpeg during the ./configure process. I'm still getting the same choppy playback with karaoke CDG files, even with the -mc 10 option added. It seems to update about once per second, and be frozen for about half a second. So it's updating about half the time. Strange. I don't imagine anyone has any theories? Using the latest version of Lubuntu.
