You're right.  Now that you point them out, the defects in the first
play are obvious.  I see those defects with none of the players,
mplayer, ffplay, or vlc.  They all seem to be the same, and more like
the second play from the above link.  A continuous play, with sound
accompaniment, and video and sound ending in sync.
