Slow motion

Hi all...

Yesterday I found this fantastic option...!  I do:

 $ mplayer -af scaletempo -speed 0.5 file

and so can play an audio or video file in slow motion without altering audio
frequency...  Also save it with ffmpeg:

 $ ffmpeg -i beeth-symph3-klemperer_01.mp3 -filter:a "atempo=0.5" output.mp3

and also with sox:

 $ sox <input> <output> tempo 0.5

Only, a certain sound distortion is produced, the more when more slowing...
Would it be possible (maybe asking too much?) to avoid it...?
