vdpau/x11 broken OSD fonts when runnin g on linux in windows virtualbox

Hi,

I've encountered a problem when running mplayer in debian linux inside 
virtualbox hosted on windows (Host = windows, virtual machine = debian 
linux) - the OSD font gets "broken" so it's almost unreadable with vdpau 
(default on that machine) and x11 outputs. It works with `gl`

Summary:
 - video plays totally ok, no problems here,
 - OSD font rendering is broken (looks like some form of weird interlacing)
   - it IS broken with vdpau, x11 drivers
   - it's NOT broken with `-vo gl`
   - (see attachment image)
 - no user settings (i.e. empty `~/.mplayer/config`)
