audio output OSS or SDL?

from "olivares@fedora" I assume you use linux. have you tried e.g. alsa 
output?

mplayer -ao alsa

if it's not available, try:
mplayer -ao list

Dear Sir,

Output works for mp4, mp3 files.  Just ogg vorbis files have this problem.  Alsa is enabled, oss is enabled SDL is not available.  Playing via hdmi in case it is important.  If playing a youtube video the message /dev/dsp is displayed but sound does work.
