Integrate support for multimedia keyboards?

I've been watching as Mplayer slowly evolves towards it's first offical 
release.  I'm still rather new to linux and as such, I'm waiting for the 
first release to install it on my pu-ter.

While on linux, I noticed there doesn't seem to be much info on the 
internet about linux support for Multimedia keyboards.  I tried to do a 
google search under the keywords "multimedia keyboard linux".  I haven't 
had too much luck finding websites which have solutions for support of a 
multimedia keyboard .  It seems to me that MPlayer is going to be very 
popular and I was wondering if it would be possible to possibly add 
support to the product for it to work via multimedia keyboard.   Mainly 
the (CD buttons, volume knob, mute button, etc.)

I think MPlayer already has a lot of nice features but I was hoping it 
would be possible to add multimedia keyboard support.

Esp. If it's the first media player on linux to support it.
