I'm running SuSE Liinux 8.1 as well, but I have no problems.

My guess would be that you are running an old ALSA (SuSE 8.1 Linux came 
out in October, IIRC).  I'm running the latest.

You can compile ALSA from source (http://www.alsa-project.org) or 
download from RPMs from Packman (http://packman.links2linux.de).  Your 
choice.  I got mine from Packman.

Also, if you don't want to do the compiling, I'm distributing Ogle RPMs 
at my SF.net page (http://suserpm.sf.net).
