Ah, I see... sorry, didn't check out a fresh cvs...
But there indeed seems to be a problem with this.
When I take a clean ogle-0.9.2.tar.gz and unpack it:
a) I just run configure -> builds with "so"
b) I run autogen.sh before -> builds without "so"
When I take cvs it (now) builds both ways. But I'm sure it wasn't always 
the case because I usually compile and install ogle from cvs...

As this also happens on Fedora now, I think there really is a problem 
somewhere in ogle regarding automake 1.7. Also a friend experienced 
this on Debian/unstable some days ago... so it is not a broken 
installation that's causing this.
