The audio drivers in the kernel have used the OSS interface up to 
recently, I don't know if they have changed to alsa yet.
So the sound system on your linux system either uses the OSS or the ALSA
interface. It wouldn't make sense to have yet another interface.

You have to keep the OSS interface and the company apart.
The commercial/free drivers that the company 4Front make are using
the same interface as the kernel included drivers (OSS).
4Front has drivers for linux/bsd/solaris/... using the OSS api.

Did it make any difference when you tried with <driver>oss<.... ?
