The audio is integrated on the motherboard. It's an nvidia/ac_97. As for the 
audio software, I'm not sure. OSS, I suppose, as that's the usual default. 
I'm installing ALSA now anyway.

Well, that fixed it (still running the original OSS at the moment). In fact, 
the entire <speakers> section in oglerc was commented out. I have tested two 
DVDs that were known to play at double speed, and they are now playing 
normally.
