Your region 1 dvds probably had multichannel(more than two) audio
and the others only 2channel audio.
When there is no channel_config specified we ask the sound card driver
how many channels are supported and if the driver is broken and
reports the wrong number it won't work. Specifying
a channel_config forces the card to be opened with that number of channels.

The LPCM,AC3,DTS,MPEG chtypes are for outputting those audio types
directly via a spdif digital out.
