Yes it probably is something like that, it could also be that the audio
driver is buggy.
Could you run 'ogle --debug' to get a more information and post it here?

Also after you have done that, edit the oglerc so you have
  <speakers>
    <channel_config>
        <chtype>Left</chtype>
        <chtype>Right</chtype>
      </channel_config> 
</speakers>
(the <speakers> section is commented out in the default oglerc so
make sure you don't put it in the commented section)

This will force the use of only 2 channel audio on your audio card.
Then run ogle again and see if you still have the problem.

You can also try the OSS drivers from www.opensound.com and see
if they work better.
