Problem running ogle (SNDCTL_DSP_GETCHANNELMASK: Invalid argument)

I used the instructions and it failed because it could
not find a C compiler.
I am using Fedora Core 2 (Redhat) and apply all the
maintenance as it becomes available over up2date.
My only experience of modifying Linux systems is to
install packages as RPMs - not to use source based
installations.
The results of the install attempt follow - I guess
this is a very simple error to fix - but I don't know
how
