I was going to purchase a video card today to get this xv thing
operational but I had a thought!

I recorded all the video footage in the mode Philips call M6 which is
the lowest recording resolution. Checking the spec sheets this equates
to half D1 where the pixel resolution is (HxV) 360x576 whereas the
highest recording resolution, M1, is 720x576.

So that would explain the tall&skinny video.

I tried a recording at M1 in Ogle and that displays correctly
(technically I suppose, Ogle is also displaying the M6 tall&skinny
correctly as well :) ).

The recorders formats are M1,M2,M2x,M3,M4,M6 with the first three being
D1 resolution and the remainder are half D1. I've tested recordings at
all six settings and as now expected the first three display 'correctly'
whilst the last three 'display' tall&skinny.

Other than installing an xv compatible card I take it there is no other
way to stretch tall&skinny out ?

This is the link to the recorders specification details in PDF should
you wish to have a look.

(The DVDR80 model has an M8 setting, SIF at 352x288 ! Probably looks
like a pencil on my system :) It's a pity that Phillips didn't halve the
vertical component of their half D1 as they did with the horizontal
component to at least maintain the overall ratio! )
