The trick is described here: http://www.gnu.org/software/automake/manual/html_node/Debugging-Make-Rules.html [...] make SHELL="/bin/bash -vx" can help debug complex rules. See The Make Macro SHELL in The Autoconf Manual, for some portability quirks associated with this construct. [...] I've decided to completely comment out the test. Since upstream is not interested in having the test suite running on big-endian, I believe this is acceptable. Thanks.
