Sorry, for beeing pretty new here. ;-)

The last time I had a look at the LUA language, which is prototyped - 
prototyped was also the language NewtonScript, which was used especially 
for the GUI of the newton. There is a website about these thoughts

Reading about LUA I thought, why not simply take LUA's flexibility to 
hold the GUI elements in it's flexible structures? I think, it would be 
ideal for that purpose. Do you know LUA? It is at http://lua.org. It can 
easily be embedded in C. Also using it's structures is one thing. THe 
other would be, that it could be possible to "script" some things, so 
that they could be running on the server side, without need to 
communicate it's states wit hthe client. You would get very flexible 
that way. Just a thought...
