Image formats for pgl-toolbar

Anyone out there,
 
Can the pgl-toolbar load only bmp, or can it load other formats(i.e. png, jpg, etc.)?  Also what are the limits of the images it loads?  I am asking this because PicoGUI has great looking themes, but the icons in the toolbar seem plain to me.
