freetype fonts

Hi folks

I lost the contents of my Helio as I was trying to sync my email with 
Outlook.

But, my loss is our gain.  I've used this as an excuse to light a fire under 
myself and do more work on picopim.

So I downloaded 0.45 and compiled it on my laptop.  I had trouble with BDF 
fonts, I think bdf_fontstyles wasn't defined and vidbase/font_bdf.c wouldn't 
compile.

Instead of fighting with it, I turned it off and chose Freetype fonts 
instead.  I installed freetype (the development stuff) for version 2.1.3-6

Everything compiles and runs but I'm not getting all the fonts.  For 
example, text in buttons doesn't display, months on the calendar (via 
pgDatePicker) don't display, but the numbers for the dates display.  
Curiously, the days of the week do display.  So do the to do text entries I 
load.

Any ideas?
