UTF-8 / ascii strings

Hi all,

I want to use the build-in ISO-8859 bdf fonts with picogui, but I can't select
the 8bit glyphs, because the strings are supposed to be UTF-8.

Is there a way to use 8-bit ascii instead?
Or can the server somehow lookup the 8-bit characters in the bdf font,
corresponding to the UTF code?

Thanks and best regards,

Pieter

PS, I wrote a threadsafe c-client,
I decided to strip batch-command support, idle-handle support and
select-handle support, to make things a bit easier for me.
If someone is interested, let me know.
