No and I am probably giving a "Jehovah" advice on this list ;), but to
extract an ac3 audio stream from a dvd, I use:

mplayer -dumpaudio -alang <YourChoice> -dumpfile audio.ac3 dvd://<title>

as the syntax is more straight forward for me, YMMV.
