I have a better solution, at least for my case.  xvidcore 1.2.1 did not 
produce a pkgconfig file or any util that the configure script could 
locate to determine the CFLAGS and LDFLAGS for using xvid.  In checking 
out my custom rolled packages of xvidcore from the past, even in the 
1.0.x series I did not end up with a pkgconfig file or anything of the 
likes.  I manually created one.
