Transcode fails to load xvid.

It has been about 6 months since I tried last to use transcode. In that time I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 reinstalling transcode and all the codecs.When I run the simple command "transcode -i test.avi -y xvid4" it fails with this error:[export_xvid4.so] v0.0.6 (2007-08-11) (video) XviD 1.0.x series (aka API 4.0) | (audio) MPEG/AC3/PCM[export_xvid4.so] warning: Encoder initialization failed[encoder.c] warning: video export module error: init failed[transcode] critical: failed to init encoder
So I downloaded and recompiled Xvid version 1.2.2 as well as transcode version 1.1.5 in that order and it still fails with that error.My next step was to download and recompile Xvid version 1.0.2 and then recompile transcode with that but still the same error.I have ensured that links were created to libxvidcore.so.4.(0 or 2) named libxvidcore.so.4 and libxvidcore.soI am loosing my mind trying to get this to work and it has brought a number of projects to a screaming halt, if anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.
I should also point out that the FFmpeg encoder fails trying to allocate some gawd awful large amount of memory in the thousands of terabytes.
