Summary: pressing 'm' does not mute

Initial Comment:
I have set up the config file to mute on exit. It
works perfectly. however, I am unable to mute the
volume using the 'm' key press. The display shows
'Mute' but the sound continues.

I am using the bttv driver and a fully updated FC4
distribution.

It will work on kernel 2.6.14, but than you'll have some
other problems with sound. Use it if you want
