vlc player

dear reader

i have installed VLC player on my winxp OS. i opened a video in media player
and it plays no problem. if i open it in VLC player it open and run without
any error but the video/display stay black. i have tried to use differend Vs
of VLC player but all have the same outcame. I don't know if i need some
codecs?
Can you please help. I don't want to use any other player than VLC.
