Interest in Contributing to dav1d Metadata Extraction (GSoC Project)

Hello everyone, My name is Soham Kute, and I’m a student pursuing
engineering at VJTI Mumbai. I have a strong interest in video codecs and
open-source multimedia tools, and I’m particularly excited about the
project idea to enhance dav1d’s metadata extraction capabilities (as
discussed in the GSoC proposal).

I’d like to contribute by implementing block-level metadata, timing
metrics, and visualization tools to enhance dav1d for encoder development
(e.g., rav1e). Could you advise on the best way to contact unlord (email or
IRC) to discuss the project further?
Additionally, I’d appreciate any advice on:
- Which parts of the dav1d codebase I should focus on initially.
- Any starter tasks or issues I can work on to familiarize myself with the
project.
I’ve already started exploring the dav1d source code and AV1 specifications,
but I’d love to align my work with the project’s roadmap. Thank you for
