how to fix compile vlc 2.0.1 error R_X86_64_32

i get this error /usr/bin/ld: /usr/local/lib/libavcodec.a(kbdwin.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/local/lib/libavcodec.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[5]: *** [libaccess_avio_plugin.la] Error 1
while compile vlc, i try other people suggestion ./configure --enable-gpl --enable-pic to ffmpeg but still get the same result

how do i fix this error 

my system is ubuntu 11.04Natty Narwhalamd64bit
ffmpeg-0.10.3.tar.gz
vlc-2.0.1
