Converting a video file

Hi All,
I have video files with Video codec H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) and audio Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a).

Whenever I try to convert these files into a format with a lower resolution I lose the video portion.

What am I doing wrong?
