The links part can be achived with a bash script, or directy with php which
will be hosted by a http/ftp server.

The links will be pointing to rtmp or other streaming protocols which
players can open, and we'll be running the corresponding server on the pc
in which the movie database lies.

Also did you ever think about file sharing?
