Install Path

Hi All

My first post after years of VLC use

My install is not in the "default" location so every time I upgrade VLC tries 
to uninstall a non existant installation then reinstall to the default again

Is there some way that VLC could at least notice where it is installed and 
re-install there on upgrade, other apps manage
