can videolan do live video streaming?

I am a research student at National Univ of Singapore. I found your vlms project on web and I am very fond of it.
However, I am not very sure if the vlms or vls can do streaming job with live videos from a webcam, (if I have the 
proper cam capture software)? would you please let me know it?
