One comment - "prefix" should have a default of "prefix=/usr/local" or something - inserting into /bin by default is probably not good. One question - How easy would it be to add an option to start X bytes/Y minutes:seconds into a file? I'd do this myself, but I'm not really sure of a suitable way to find a frame beginning somewhere into the file.
