[streaming] Audio desync while streaming?

It seems that the audio desync option (for correcting A/V sync) (--audio-desync) does not affect what makes it to the sout modules? I'm trying to bring in a live DV stream (using rawdv on Linux) that has the audio slightly behind the video, but can't get VLC to resync the audio... Anyone know about this?
