If I remember correctly, I have read somewhere that VLM syntax changed a
bit. I think you will find some related posts on the forum (forum.v.o).

Does your vlm-file conforms to http://wiki.videolan.org/VLM?
Maybe VLC 0.9.8a would have been a better choice for an upgrade.
