The last time I checked VLC didn't know how to parse the contents of a NSC 
file which is usually what your ASX file will reference internally.  So 
instead of giving VLC the URL to your ASX file, you need to specify an MMS 
URL of the publishing point to VLC.  Eg. mms://server/publishing-point
