I found this page: http://inventors.about.com/library/bl/toc/blcopyright8.htm which discusses "Form of Copyright Notice for Phonorecords of Sound Recordings". So the (p) symbol has to with, ahem, phonorecords. I was just getting suspicious that it had something to do with DRM.
